Preliminary Announcement

The 6th European Mars Society Convention, organized by Association Planète Mars, will be held
from Friday, October 20, 2006 (6:00 PM)
to Sunday, October 22, 2006 (5:00 PM)

The Convention will take place on the premises of the Institut Polytechnique des Sciences Avancées, an engineering school specialized in aeronautics and space,

24 rue Pasteur, Le Kremlin-Bicêtre (5minute walk from subway stop Porte d'Italie, Southern Paris)

MAIN SESSIONS :
  • What is our current knowledge of Mars?
  • Mars and the search for life
  • The robotic exploration program
  • Manned flights: technology, challenges and project status
  • Exploration and society
EVENTS :

Opening debate (Friday Oct 20, 6:30 PM) : Exploring Mars: what are the stakes? What role can play European science and technology?
followed by
Parisian Soirée, dinner and cruise on the Seine River (reservation needed)

Special evening open to the public (Saturday Oct 21, 8:30-11:00 PM), in French, free admission (limited seating) :

  • Mars, from fiction to fact
  • Break: Martian cocktail
  • Mars on Earth: The Mars Society's research stations The MDRS 43 mission: hear their story and meet the crew

Throughout the Convention, there will be an exhibit of art posters, educative displays, scale models, Martian artwork by artist Manchu ; as well as a book, T-shirt and poster sale.

CALL FOR PAPERS :

Attendees who wish to make a presentation fitting one of the Convention themes, should send an abstract to : emc6paris@voila.fr
The abstract should be sent in electronic form only, as a doc, rtf or txt file (no pdf), without figures or illustrations; limited to 500 words. Submission deadline: July 31, 2006. Each presentation will be limited to 30 minutes (Q/A period included).

MS Members: 30 euros Non-members: 60 euros Under 25: half-price
Parisian dinner-cruise: 40 euros

This International convention will be held in English, except for Saturday evening's event, open to the public, which will be held in French
